As we reach the final straights of the global lockdown, rising London R&B singer-songwriter FGNunveils his sultry, frank debut release ‘Pandemic’ – the first release from his forthcoming debut EP.
The track emerges with woozy nebulous textures and deep lo-fi rhythms, underpinned by the Forest Gate native’s vocals standing front and centre – swaying, gritty and intoxicating, a distinct voice and tone is made immediately apparent. The track’s hypnotic heartbeat anchors FGN’s outlineof the turbulent tendencies of new-aged relationships when confined to close proximity.

Speaking on ‘Pandemic’, FGN states: It’s about the realisation that social media massively heightens the bullshit and often fake depictions of perfection in different areas of our lives, and the impacts that this can leave… I wanted to capture the ultimatums, the highs, the lows and the maybes of time spent in a relationship during the actual pandemic.”

Penning personal, sensuous tales of love and heartbreak, FGN’s (pronounced Faigan) showcases an innate ability to fuse sharp lyricism with subtle, captivating instrumentals. Paying homage to his influences such as Usher, Brandy, Jagged Edge, Tory Lanez, his glassy R&B soundscapes feel personal and new. With recent production credits on BLK GOLD’s ‘Stay Focus’ receiving support from BBC 1Xtra, it’s clear FGN’s abilities mark him out as an intriguing and insightful new voice in the UK landscape.
